What to expect from your marriage celebrant (from the Code of Practice for Marriage Celebrants)
A marriage celebrant must;
- Give the parties information and guidance to enable them to choose or compose a marriage ceremony that will meet their needs and expectations: Conduct a rehearsal if requested;
- The celebrant must make efforts to ensure that marriage ceremonies are audible to all present; Ensure accuracy in the preparation of documents and in the conduct of marriage ceremonies;
- Arrive at the venue for the marriage ceremony no later than the time agreed with the parties;
- Ensure that all relevant documents are completed and sent to the appropriate authorities within 14 days of the ceremony ;
- If the celebrant has agreed to perform other ceremonies on the same day; the marriage celebrant must ensure that the parties to each of the marriage ceremonies receive a level of service that meets their separate and special requirements;
- Be available at the venue for each marriage ceremony at least 20 minutes before the agreed commencement time of each
